Francisco Gomez

Alicante - Spain

Francisco Gomez is a Spanish company that produces premium wines and olive oils, based north of Alicante. While maximising its production system thanks to modern infrastructures, Francisco Gomez operates in an eco-responsible manner: respect for the environment and for the local know-how are part of the business’s philosophy. Tradition and Revolution go hand in hand. They are the two sides of the same coin.

The cornerstones of the Bodegas Francisco Gómez winery are :

1. QUALITY

Organic

The vines of Francisco Gómez are grown according to environmentally-friendly and sustainable methods, following the strict requirements set down by organic vine-growing. Over the years, they have carefully brought together the time-honoured, local methods and the most modern technological techniques and have succeeded in establishing a way of working that is genuine, appropriate and adapted to the unique terroir of their vineyards.

2. SUSTAINABILITY

Since its creation, their main aim has been to develop a wine-growing concern based on High Quality, Sustainability and Care for the Natural Environment. They therefore offer wines and olive oils which meet the demands and expectations of their clients. They protect and care for nature and watch over the sustainability of the environment in which their activity is practised. The company seeks to strengthen and develop each of the pillars that define any activity as sustainable, meaning :

  • the ecological variable and its natural environment
  • the economic variable
  • the socio-cultural variable

3. CARE FOR THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

In the last ten years they have added to the surface area with new plantations, making a total area of 200 hectares of vines and almost 400 hectares of olive groves. This increase in vegetation has enhanced nature conservation in the area and helped fight the erosion of the natural environment. Throughout the 2,000 hectares of ancient Mediterranean hills included in the estate, the land is tended according to strict organic principles, which include seeking the preservation of wild fauna and flora.

The vines and olives trees of Francisco Gómez are grown according to environmentally-friendly and stainable methods, following the strict requirements set down by organic vine-growing. All of them are certified by the European Union. Produced with no chemical product and no pesticide, following the same rules when the grapes and the olive are introduced on the winery and the olive mill. In this way, they conserve the fertility of the ground and respecting the environment. They also develop prevention methods in front of any plague or plant disease, increasing the natural resist of the vineyard and olive trees.

They produce wines and olive oils certified Demeter following the rules of the biodynamic farming. This kind of agriculture continues the traditional approach of the organic farming. So, they do not use chemical products and toxic pesticides. They keep harmony of their ground thanks to the interrelation of the plants and animals like one of the parts of the development in their estate “La Serrata”. They control the growth process, the fruit, collecting and processing a planting calendar based on lunar cycles in total connection with the planets and nature.

OLIVE OIL

The time-honoured Alicante tradition of olive oil production continues to thrive at Bodegas Francisco Gómez. Only Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made there, using cold- pressed olives sourced from its own 300-hectare olive groves, which supply a total crop of some 700,000kg of olives. No detail is overlooked in the process, from the well-being and health of the olive trees to the harvesting of the olives and the production of the oil. The picking starts early, at the onset of cold weather in November, when our Arbequina olives have reached perfect ripeness. The harvest continues with the Picual, Grosal, and Cornicabra varieties. Only a few minutes separate the moment when the olives are picked and their arrival at the olive mill. This is a key factor in making high quality olive oils. The mill is equipped with the latest technology, and the oil is stored in stainless steel. Their cold-pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oils are totally natural products. They have extraordinary colour, aromas and flavours and display outstanding tasting characteristics.
