Tomatoes & Pasta Sauces

San Marzano Marinara tomato sauce

Description
Grown at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, the San Marzano tomato is the soul of this marinara sauce. Sweet, sun-ripened and low in acidity, it’s simmered with olive oil, onion, garlic, and a touch of basil. A simple, authentic recipe that showcases the pure flavour of Italy’s quintessential tomato.

Uses
Delicious with long pastas like linguine or as a base for homemade pizza. It pairs beautifully with seafood, meatballs, eggplant parmigiana, and other simmered dishes. Don't throw away all your pasta cooking water: it's a good idea to add a bit to your sauce. Mix in ¼ to ½ cup (or a ladleful) cooking water with the sauce before adding the pasta. The salted, starchy water will enhance flavours and thicken the sauce, helping it stick to the pasta.
