Based in Folignio, in Italy’s Umbria region, the Muzzi company was founded in 1795 by Mastro Tommaso di Filippo Muzzi, a baker specializing in small aniseed pastries. Generation later, it is Loredana Muzzi Farrese, mother of three and grandmother of nine, who heads the board of directors of a business which exports its products to the best gourmet food stores in the world and comprises several other panettone brands acquired over the years. While her son Filippo has taken over as president, signora Loredana still plays an active role in the company’s strategic decisions in order to preserve traditions and the product’s artisanal quality. Growth and industrialization can be leveraged to refine management methods, but never to alter ingredients, recipes or quality. The partnership between Favuzzi and Muzzi is above everything the story of a friendship between Loredana’s grandson Tommaso Muzzi (the family has preserved its tradition of naming the first born Tommaso or Filippo, from one generation to the next) and Michel Favuzzi who, in their early 20s, spontaneously bonded while Muzzi visited Montreal on a trade mission. In fact, all of Favuzzi’s business relationships are born of shared values before any commercial agreement is signed.
